The Digital Armageddon

Digi-Cool® vs. Testo® vs. J/B® vs. Refco® vs. the latest kid on the block. The DC 1100 or 1200 or the Testo 523 -556 or 560, the J/B DM-2, DM-3 – which is better, which is the best? Will it ever end? Probably not, at least not in the near future at any rate. Let’s face it the questions in and of themselves are legitimate questions, but they serve no real practical purpose. Questions relevant to specfic OEM generational changes, absolutely. Those are the questions that facilitate the field technicians ability to understand and identify specific features and capabilities as they apply to that specific instrument, those capabilities and features can then be matched to our individual needs as a technician based on the style, type and equipment applications that we most likely encounter in the field. Questions relevant to one OEM’s product capabilities as they are pertinent to features, absolutely. If I am interested in the expanded diagnostics capability of the Dynamic Offset Graph™ then I’m not going to want to invest in the Testo – conversely if display screen and sight glass backlighting are important features then I’m not going to want to invest in the current Digi-Cool offerings.

DEFINITION: IrDA (Infrared Data Association) is an industry-sponsored organization set up in 1993 to create international standards for the hardware and software used in infrared communication links. In this special form of radio transmission, a focused ray of light in the infrared frequency spectrum, measured in terahertz, or trillions of hertz (cycles per second), is modulated with information and sent from a transmitter to a receiver over a relatively short distance.
